Children First Foundation’s In-Country Surgery program facilitates life-saving and life-changing surgery in children’s home country, where possible.
We collaborate with a select number of overseas hospitals to facilitate surgery locally. In these cases, we work extensively with our medical advisors to ensure that the surgical interventions required can take place safely and to a high standard.
Just like in the Miracle sMiles (Australian) program, we provide children and families with vital pre-surgery and post-surgery support, including rehabilitation, ensuring the best possible outcome for each child.
Advantages of In-Country Surgery
When children can assess quality surgical care in their home country, they are treated faster, surrounded by loved ones, and cared for by a team that speaks the family's language. This allows the family to understand precisely what’s happening at each step along the way. It is also more cost-effective so that we can help even more children.
Meet Ngoc
Ngoc was our first in-country case in Vietnam. Although Ngoc is happy and smiling in this picture, her Achilles tendon was severely contracted and as a result, Ngoc walked on her toes. To walk pain-free and make her everyday life more manageable, Ngoc desperately needed surgery to lengthen her Achilles tendon. Ngoc was able to have her surgery and undergo rehabilitation all in-country, in Vietnam.
